North American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) is one of the most widely used medicinal plants. Its success is thought to be due to a diverse collection of ginsenosides that serve as its major bioactive compounds. As the root is the primary source of commercial and medical products, and ginsenosides are distributed throughout the ginseng root, RNA-seq data for transcriptomic content was collected from root tissue from plant first shoot growth through to senescence using seven developmental stages: 1) leaf emergence, 2) distinctive separation of leaf and stem, 3) plants in full flower, 4) green fruit set, 5) red fruit set, 6) fruit drop and 7) signs of life senescence. |
